At Builders Depot Direct we are focused on providing our customers with 'The Highest Quality Products at the Lowest Possible Price'. In order for us to complete this cycle we must provide our customers with the lowest possible freight rates. Unlike our competitors we do not view freight as a profit center - but as a means of getting our customers their order for the lowest possible price.
Here are just a few examples, most freight rates are simply calculated by weight - please feel free to take these weights convert them to other competitiors freight pricing, try their online freight systems. All the freight systems can have mark ups, we calculate each order individually - this means multiple carriers will bid for your shipment guaranteeing you the lowest possible rate. Shipping Marble natural stone, metal mosaics, glass tile and more can be too complicated for just one website.
Because of the number of products we offer, mosaics all the way to 18x18 field tile and laminate flooring it is not possible for a freight calculator to take into account all the variables, there are essentially 3 shipping options:
- FedEx Ground Delivered Residence - This is best for mosaic orders under 65SF (use www.thebuilderdepot.com for lowest freight rate)
- LTL Freight Delivered Residence – Best for mosaics order over 65SF and any tile orders (www.BuildersDepotDirect.com or contact us for the lowest price freight rate)
- LTL Freight Terminal – This is by far the most cost effective method of shipping large orders (laminate flooring/field tiles); this has to be done manually by contacting 4-5 carriers and getting the best possible rate. We would then email you back with a list of 3-4 terminals. It works well if you have the means and the desire to collect the order, can save 40-50% on shipping, 70% of our orders ship to a terminal. Please contact us with your quantity and zip code sales@buildersdepotdirect.com and we will email you back with a list of terminals and prices.
The Builder Depot website has been created for our customers to order the most popular mosaics the fastest and most efficient way possible. Every month hundreds of customers order online through our website, receiving their order quickly and well packaged, you do not have to just take our work for it either you can read reviews through independent sites on EBay and Amazon.
Please Note: Orders over 60SF of mosaic we can manually contact carriers and see what terminal delivery rates are avaiable in your area. For example 90SF of Hexagon mosaic shipped residential delivery to Texas is $298.76 shipped to a terminal is $186.94, if that terminal is within 15 minutes of your home picking up from the terminal can offer significant savings. Terminal freight rates can only be calculated manually.
At Builders Depot Direct the freight rates are higher becasue we have to account for LTL shipping on large format tiles (as we sell 18x18 and mosaics together, thus can be ordered together) 70% of all orders are mosaics. With this in mind we have created another website www.thebuilderdepot.com to focus just on mosaics and trims - we can ship these FedEx ground and this website reflects the lower costs of shipping these items FedEx. If you are shipping field tiles 3x6, 6x6, 6x12, 12x12 and 18x18 please contact us ay sales@buildersdepotdirect.com for a freight rate that includes options to a freight terminal along with a residential quote - with Builders Depot manually searching the lowest freight rate the savings can be more than 50%.

**Please note Glass is Freight Class 65 - our highest class to ship, the freight cost is higher per square foot than any other item we carry.-Also note though it does not specify in the chart above some of these rates may be a terminal delivered rate. Terminal deliveries offer significant savings for the customer becuase a) they are not charged a residential delivery fee (can be $100+) or b) a lift-gate fee and again depending on the order size can be $100+. Picking up from a local terminal 10-15 minutes away can save a lot of money.-Finally please also know that 40SF to 75SF of 3x6" is a particularly difficult window of shipping size, it is too large to ship safely FedEx ground (unlike mosaics as they have flexibility on the mesh) and too small an order to make shipping LTL reasonable. Simply put 40SF+ of 3x6" can only ship on a pallet and as a pallet takes up a certain size regardless of what is ordered a minimum freight charge will apply, that minimum can make the landed cost per square foot too high for an ecommerce purchase.-The table above also shows the delivered price, for example. 120SF of 3x6" Carrrara Subway to Houston Texas (cost of the product $7.00SF) the delivered cost to the customer was $8.41SF.
Freight rates vary (almost unfairly) depending on where you are shipping to – for example. Shipping 360SF of 3x6” Subway Tile in September to Miami from Atlanta can be considerably cheaper that shipping to Baltimore. Why? Because certain freight carriers are very strong on a regional basis. Southeastern freight lines cover the ‘Southeast’ and can deliver pallets to their terminals for a very low cost. Baltimore is outside their area and we would have to use a different carrier.
So even though Miami or even Dallas, TX is further away it can be considerably cheaper to ship there than a place considered just outside the Southeast.
Note I stated ‘September’ in the above paragraph because during what is called ‘fruit season’ freight rates to Florida skyrocket – fortunately this is just a 2 week period, but it is a fine example of supply and demand. If all a carriers trucks are full they can charge more for your order.
Finally… we are not a freight company and we do not make freight a profit center – we just want to get your product to you safely and for the lowest possible price.
